Feds Funny Food Price Position!

How utterly magnanimous of them! I saw a news clip the other day that the Feds are warning that food prices will probably be going up. What an insight! And aren't you so glad you've been told? How wonderful that they'd give us the heads up! It almost makes me wonder if they'll use this as an election item trying to demonstrate their unassailable wisdom that they were in the know during their watch and passed on to you the sad but vital information.

Isn't the real truth of the matter that they themselves have been chiefly responsible for that very thing...food prices going up by continually devaluing the currency printing more money? Isn't that the meaning of government induced INFLATION? I'd suggest a less disingenuous thing for them to say might be, that because of our unwillingness to show restraint, we printed more money THUS your food prices will soar. There AIN'T no two ways about it! Yes I know, "AIN'T" isn't a word. Perhaps the government will tell me that too!

Sign, Sign Everywhere a Sign!

Will  resistance  be futile? Do you recall the day when advertising on the net was minimal...now we see it entrenched on nearly everything we click. Apparently we haven't come even close to an end where the guardians of the net seek  to make a buck off of our tendency  to be apart of the click-on -world.  Picture the following future scenario...ads on your refrigerator, car dashboards, thermostats, glasses and watches just to name a few! Lets just say one of the giants in the computer online industry has sent a letter to the Securities and Exchange Commissions revealing that's what they'd like to do.

What will be next...soap ads as one turns on the tap to shower? How about 3 different commercials all about headache pills before the medicine cabinet will unlock allowing you to take your asprin?  Could a day come when a higher percentage of the tech assimilated will finally shout out, "Enough is enough! Shut it all off and let's go back to a simpler day that pioneers of a past generation would claim was less complicated and complex where one could actually have peace of mind especially seeing you'd have at least a few private moments!" Take heart! There might be a day where just entertaining the thought of privacy concerns you'll see an ad pop up suggesting 25 books on that very thing. Welcome to the future!

My Thoughts on TV series LOST [2004-2010]

I felt LOST trying to come up with a subject for a blog...then thought why not one about LOST, that is the television series that ran from 2004-2010 ---at one time---the water cooler topic of the day. It gained quite a following but it's popularity began to wane not due in my opinion to any fault of the actors....they went to work and did their job...but no for two basic reasons...the network scheduling of the show left much to be desired as they gave it a rather long hiatus, and also the continual pre-empting of shows. I recall many saying to me through it's run that enough was enough! The second problem? The writing. Yes some might sing the writers praises however not I. I will acknowledge however the series had some good moments. There was a good diversity of characters and to watch how they'd experience interacting with each other was compelling to see.

You had the highly professional and well educated physician, Jack Sheppard learning to relate to those of a more menial place in life---perhaps not economically so but true when it came to social class. Hurley for example was rich having won a lottery and yet intellectually a different class, plus other individuals as well...and yet they all learnt to get along and function as a community. One could say LOST, was similar to a Twilight Zone themed show...mysterious, mystical and unpredictable. In later seasons however you hardly knew if you were in the future of the LOST characters, the past, present or whether you were anywhere truly at all and all but the most faithful devotees gave up caring long before the series reached it's end.

Some might challenge me on that but clearly if one looks at a graph of it's ratings by the numbers of  Seasons 1-6 they obviously tell the tale. Season 1 and 2 peaked with numbers well over 20 million viewers, where as 3,4,5 and 6 saw a steady decline. Season 6 started with only 14 million then dropped into a cellar of only an average of 9...until the very last show which spiked yes, but only to 14 million and again for only that last one show. Such was a far cry from when they were pulling in over 20 million each episode . Sad really. The show wasn't what it could have been. A clear way to have improved it? I'd say if they had it as only a 3 years series  and not to have put in every strange, unusual and weird theme imaginable , keeping it a great deal more simple it would in my opinion have fared much better.

I'd say it this way, LOST was an overload of the strange. They should have left a little bit of fuel for some new type of mystical series a few years down the road. The idea of keeping dumping everything into it but the kitchen sink caused great disillusionment among fans. The cry was to give us closure as to the "Why" of LOST. None was forth coming until the very last episode and even that was vague. Anyone to suggest all things were made clear I'd contend they had to be smoking something funny...in other words they were confused but didn't know it much like the story of the Emperor with no clothes.

When it was suggested to Matthew Fox, Jack Sheppard by character, in an interview after the grand finalie if it wasn't true that he actually died in the plane, he responded by saying, "It's possible." Amusingly this goes contrary to what the majority of all the devotees to the series claim took place. I guess they knew more than him though. They weren't on the actual island like him so they could step back and see what they considered to be the bigger picture.
My rating? While I liked the actors, I give the series: 5 out of 10.
My Favourite Character: John Locke

Would You Like A Colourful Town?

How are you for colour or color depending on how you like it? Would you like your streets to look like the above? A little bit too much? Not your your cup of tea? As for me I could live with it and I think enjoy it. It'd certainly make something like walking down the street an interesting outing. For those buying real-estate what would be the requirements. Would it be that you couldn't change the colour of your house so as not to confuse people who'd used such colourful landmarks as a way to give directions?  What if you bought a orange house and decided you wanted to paint it blue? Would all of a town's citizens have to sign on to give you their blessings? What about traditionalists that might claim your house has been blue since 1919 so why bother to change it now? Others might opt for RED but might that be considered a colour insinuating too much passion?

A town could agree to paint everything just one colour so as not to create confusion and change it to another shade a few years down the road so as to demonstrate they're progressive not allowing themselves to be locked into the same old same old. Who knows? There was a town of Júzcar in southern Spain which agreed to paint every building blue for 'The Smurf Movie' and the film company provided the paint. Might this also be a way to create a career? Perhaps one could persuade a great many to multi-colour their street and you can offer them a special deal, 2 houses for the price of one.

In considering the multi-coloured town I can only see one draw back...those who are genuinely colour blind. One couldn't give directions or receive them based on the shade of the bricks. How about a title for a novel, something akin to, "Murder at the Red House" or "Mystery on the Blue and Gloomy Street"? It sure wouldn't be considered a story with no colour. I say bring on the streets with many colours...and while you're at it put in the yellow brick road too! Perhaps it might make one feel they're living in the Emerald City!
