Revisiting Susan Boyle Audition Part 4

I've heard it said there probably isn't anybody alive today who hasn't heard the name of Susan Boyle.  She's loved and appreciated around the world for her awesome powerful singing  but her widespread  appeal and acceptance can  also can be attributed to not just to her music but to her person as well.  The entertainment industry has been known to be full of extremely pretentious individuals, cookie cut it would seem from a Hollywood mold, and then  along comes this refreshing breath of fresh air, Susan Boyle, breaking traditional rules of achieving stardom, and who,  singing with a great passion from the heart and soul--the world became convinced--this was one real and genuine individual!

There are many things one could say they admire about Susan . Beyond just her singing, what comes to my mind, is her desire  to always seek  to be gracious and forgiving . In the BGT semi-final of 2009, Simon Cowell sought to publically apologize  for the condescending way he felt she was treated, to which Susan borrowed a line from the British sitcom, 'Faulty Towers', where shaking her head she stated, "I know nothing, I know nothing, I'm from Barcelona!" The bottom line, and  the thought clearly  being rendered was , 'Look guys, forget it, as far as I'm concerned there's no record of any offence! It doesn't exist! Let's forget the past, block it out of our minds and move on to positive, constructive things!'

Very impressive!   So not only can Susan Boyle hit the high notes when it comes to her singing but she seems to delight in taking THE HIGH ROAD, when it comes to being one to graciously forgive! I'd call that class! I'd call that as one who seeks to keep things in perspective seeing a  bigger picture on what should be considered the priority, which is not to say the more serious issues of life should not be addressed, which I'm sure she does if and when they come up.  It's been said Susan's CD song selections  have meant something to her in life.  With one like, 'Let Me Be A Channel Of Your Peace', having words as, 'Where there is hatred let me bring your love',  or 'Where there is darkness only light', we see this is similar  with the gracious way she responded to the judges in the BGT 2009 semi-final.

One might consider as well the last few lines of the Stones, 'Wild Horses' song which is on Susan's first  CD, 'No sweeping exists or off stage lines,  Can make me feel bitter, or treat you unkind'. Pretty much sums up what happened in Susan's audition does it not?  As I've  stated, she did not however demand to be vindicated nor did she seek to embarrass anyone for the mistakes made. On to positive constructive things, seems to be Susan's motto, which surely should make her considered to be one of the greatest role models for people today.

Revisiting Susan Boyle Audition Part 3

One of the judges of 'Britains Got Talent' stated they felt the whole audience was against Susan prior to her singing.  While we may not be singers in a talent competition maybe we're prone to think likewise about ourselves?  It may not even be that we feel people are against us but we wonder at times how many are for us.  Susan did not succumb to a sense or feeling of inferiority that some in the audience would place upon her but rose up to embrace an optimistic winning attitude that she was going to make the audience rock!

That statement, I would say is the very thing a determined "tiger" [as Simon Cowell referred to her as being] needs to make to drive away negativity  creating a better chance to achieve one's goal!  Susan in her audition interview was asked if she was nervous and she responded, "Sure enough" but she was also aware that if she acted in timidity and fear she'd more then likely let herself down, thus affecting her performance. Putting one foot in front of the other she made a decision to walk in confidence and never looked back.  In my books that's called COURAGE!

How can we have the same and what are we afraid of anyway?  Is it the cynicism, mocking and jeering of ones who want to make light of your efforts in seeking to accomplish  a noteworthy thing?  If so maybe you should consider how much to heart you should take such ones who themselves may be sitting on their laurels never taking the time to discover their own possiblities.

Yes many are in their own personal ruts! They're imprisoned   by their own inaction, never daring to consider that new and exciting achievements are theirs to experience. Such discoveries come with a price tag however and maybe for some it's too big to pay.   It requires one to  demonstrate they have the guts, or to put it more pleasantly the intestinal fortitude , to be willing to think out of the box , leaving,  perhaps forever their comfort zones behind!  Susan Boyle had the  courage to do so.  She saw her window of opportunity and went for it!  One can only hope that we'd be likewise so inspired to do the same.

Revisiting Susan Boyle Audition Part 2

The days following having viewed the Susan Boyle video I took a keen interest in how  the story would develop.  Would she win the 'Britain Got Talent' competition?  The world was watching to see!   I combed the internet each day always intrigued by reading the editorials from journalists world-wide and their take on Susan .  Fan sites very quickly began springing up and one in particular I think you'll find  excellent  is http://www.susan-boyle.com/   If you're interested in the following and tracking of Susan's career from its start to the present day I'd highly recommend it.

It was my privilege and honour to actually even serve there as a moderator, that is one of a group of moderators overseeing the site for a period of time.  I believe you'll find it's one of the best when it comes to keeping informed about Susan and her career, and is a fun place to visit as you can make friends with other Susan fans from around the world. Back once again to the Susan audition, many had wondered, what lessons even about life itself could be learned from the event. Is all one  can take from it, is that Susan was merely  a-wanna-be-professional singer, doing her thing, hoping for recognition?

Partly, but I'd suggest there's a lot more to it then that, and I'm referring to how it applies to us. Can't we all in many ways see ourselves similar to Susan Boyle?  Don't we all feel at times we might have potential talents, that for one reason or another have  never been recognized or allowed to come forth?  I'm sure that feeling is pretty much universal  among the masses so maybe in that way we can see a similarity between Susan and ourselves.  Simon Cowell referred to Susan as, "a little tiger" to which she replied she wasn't sure about that. I am!

If you knew the length of time she had to tarry long in a waiting room before receiving the thumps up to march out on stage it might surprise you.  I'd direct you to pick up a copy of her autobiography, "The Woman I Was Born To Be" to see the details, but I dare say a great many people would have exclaimed, "Forget it! I'm going home!" or how about, "You not so nice individuals! You asked me to arrive at a certain time, and now it's way into the evening!"  Susan however did not lose her composure or allow the aggravation of waiting to move her in the slightest!  When the time finally arrived she marched out on stage, was gracious and good-humoured, in spite of added jeers from the audience and even the judges acting towards her in a condescending manner.

Revisiting Susan Boyle Audition Part 1

My first blog of the New Year I'd like to do concerning the wonderful and highly talented Susan Boyle!  Since I begain my blog in September its been my intent to want to touch on this theme but thought the month of January would be best.  Why?  Two reasons, first, is there any better way to start  a new year then to consider one who's inspired multitudes world wide  to follow their dreams?  Secondly  it was  the month of January that Susan actually sang  her rendition of  'I Dreamed A Dream"  on 'Britains Got Talent'.  April was actually the time it was shown to the general public.

Two years have passed since that memorable event and many wonderful things have happened to this one who expressed the hope of becoming a professional singer. Two CD's have been released both of which have done extremely well in sales world wide, and also a must read autobiography  detailing the journey of her life, entitled, "The Woman I Was Born To Be".  It was my pleasure to read it recently and if you'd like an enjoyable read and are looking for something to ignite inspiration within, then I'd encourage you to  pick up a copy of Susan's book today!  I suggest you will be more then glad you did!

I'd like to go back however and discuss that first time most of us became aquatinted with Susan through the renown Glasgow audition.  If you click on watching that well known u-tube video after having not seen it for quite some time I think you'll discover why.  You'll have the sense that it's all new and fresh and as stated prior what a better way to enter the new year then to be moved and inspired once again!  Perhaps you recall the first time you viewed the video?  As for me, I recall coming home beat tired after a long days work, putting my feat up, clicking on my computer only to find an email awaiting me.  A good friend knew I really had an appreciation for the singing of  Paul Potts, another great talent discovered by Simon Cowell on 'Britians Got Talent'. He informed me that they'd discovered another incredible singer I needed to hear.

I clicked on the link and watched Susan sing 'I Dreamed A Dream'.  One time watching it was not enough! I clicked it on again. When my wife came in the room that gave me the excuse to watch it numbers of more times with her. We agreed with the three judges assessment on the matter. Pierce Morgan stated, it was a stunning incredible performance, Amanda Holden expressed it was mind blowing, and Simon Cowell defined it as extraordinary!  The Bob Richards opinion, [so glad you were wondering] would be to say it was remarkable and phenomenal and to see it receive over 300 million hits on utube who could argue?

Part 2 coming soon!
